Airspeed Wireless is a disruptive telecoms company that has brought fibre-quality wireless broadband to businesses and educational bodies across Ireland.
Formed by a cadre of former broadcast engineers, AirSpeed has brought the 21st century to key organisations in remote locations who otherwise may not have been served with broadband. The company has also helped cutting-edge organisations achieve better telecoms efficiencies and more competitive services.
AirSpeed Telecom, for example, is providing 100Mbps broadband to 31 schools in a range of diverse geographical locations such as the Aran Islands, Tory Island and schools in Cork, Clare, Galway, Kildare, Wexford, Wicklow, Donegal and Dublin, as part of the Government’s plan to deploy 100Mbps broadband to all secondary schools in the country.
AirSpeed Telecom operates a nationwide carrier class licensed wireless network providing telecommunications products and services to large enterprises, public sector bodies and SME customers in Ireland. AirSpeed Telecom’s technology expertise and national coverage combine to offer businesses around Ireland a compelling service for data and voice communications.
AirSpeed Telecom’s licensed wireless network is a proven alternative to traditional networks, making it a natural choice for customers seeking resilience or backup network for business continuity purposes. As well as offering uncontended symmetrical high bandwidth services in the main urban areas, AirSpeed Telecom’s network has proven to offer distinct advantages to customers in areas with existing poor telecommunications infrastructure.
For example, nationwide wireless carrier AirSpeed has signed a two-year contract worth €90,000 with Eurolink M3 and M4 that will provide the public-private partnership with a 100Mbps link between the two toll locations. The broadband link will be used to ensure the reliable and fast transfer of mission critical and bandwidth-intensive applications. In addition, Eurolink will use the additional bandwidth to view photographs and video footage from their 40 CCTV cameras in a more time-efficient manner.
In another deployment, AirSpeed Telecom was awarded a €32,000 contract to provide the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies with a 500Mbps licensed wireless link from its Merrion Square office to Dunsink Observatory.
AirSpeed Telecom employs 35 at offices in Dublin (Citywest) and Cork (CIT Campus). Clients include RTE, Údarás na Gaeltachta, Dublin Institute of Advance Studies, Vhi Healthcare, TG4, Telegael, HEANet, Dairygold, NCSS (BreastCheck), and Vista Primary Care.

In 2009, AirSpeed had the honour of beaming 155Mbps broadband connectivity into the Global Irish Economic Forum at Farmleigh.
AirSpeed Telecom recently invested €3m in its network as part of a multi-million euro long-term investment plan which demonstrates the company’s commitment to remain at the leading edge of licensed wireless transmission service provision in Ireland. This investment involved the addition of numerous high site locations to the network, providing a platform for greater national reach.
AirSpeed Telecom was also recently awarded multiple lots of 26GHz and 3.6GHz spectrum licences from ComReg, which will significantly increase capacity in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway for uncontended high bandwidth services.
In recent months, AirSpeed acquired licensed spectrum from Magnet Networks, which will enable it to expand its WiMax footprint.
AirSpeed’s WiMax service includes voice, internet and data, and will support applications demanding high upload speeds, such as video conferencing.
