Tech jobs in Ireland draw talent from India

16 Jul 2015

In the Trading Places series, Siliconrepublic.com speaks to talented people from around the world about their experiences of leaving home for tech jobs in Ireland.

More than  700 IT and tech jobs were announced on Siliconrepublic.com during the last week of June, an almost overwhelming end to a month that saw more than 1,100 jobs announced in total.

But who can fill them?

Recent months have brought many questions and discussions about the skills gap Ireland is currently experiencing.

As the big players in tech increasingly turn to Ireland as a home for European hubs and headquarters, the sheer wealth of jobs on offer falls out of step with the number of people available to fill them.

As a result, many companies look elsewhere to find the talent to swell their ranks.

India is one of the countries supplying Ireland with people skilled in the areas these companies require.

Those who have made the move from India to Ireland universally speak of the welcoming nature of the Irish people.

They also applaud the country’s natural beauty, its diverse communities where every culture and ethnicity is celebrated, the comfort of life in Ireland, the “striking similarities” between Irish and Indian culture, and the convenience of having Asian food stores nearby. One even calls his move to Ireland the “best decision I’ve ever made”.
