Lush new website explores Marvel Comics’ 75-year history

15 Oct 2014

A new website has been launched to mark the 75th year of Marvel Comics, the company that gifted us with a superhero stable that includes Captain America, The Hulk, Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, X-Men and Iron Man.

The new website beautifully outlines the company’s rich history. Developed by students at Paris IT school HETIC in, astonishingly, just four days, Ultimate75th breaks down Marvel’s past year-by-year. Opening up a date reveals a variety of information and statistics, as well as images of comic book covers and bios on all the famous characters.

“For this project, the topic was to realise a website, using the Marvel API,” wrote the website’s developers in the site’s About Us section.

“We were very fortunate because our group was balanced and efficient. We had the chance to count on this advantage to give our best in a limited time.”

Marvel launched in 1939 as Timely Publications and for two decades produced comics in a wide variety of genres. However, with the launch of The Fantastic Four in 1961, the company ushered in what’s known as ‘The Marvel Age Of Comics’, featuring super-hero stories led by writer Stan Lee and artists Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko.
