Google launches Indoor Maps for Irish smartphones and web

8 Dec 2014

Google’s Indoor Maps is coming to Ireland for the first time, bringing Android and iOS smartphone and web users inside iconic buildings, such as the Guinness Storehouse and the National Museum.

The interactive map tool is available in the Google Maps app on Android and iOS, as well as on desktop and is available for more than 40 locations in Ireland.

By using Google Indoor Maps, users can identify specific shops, cash machines, and bathrooms within shopping centres, including Ireland’s largest shopping space, the Dundrum Town Centre in Dublin, and Merchants Quay Shopping Centre in Cork.

The app also lets users step inside and explore museums such as the National Museum or the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin.

A useful aspect of the app is travellers can go inside Dublin Airport to discover where their gate is or inside various train stations, such as Cork and Heuston, to discover their platform.

To use the Indoor Maps function, simply zoom into Maps until you start to see an indoor floor plan of the building, and use the floor picker to move from the ground floor to other available floors in the building.
