Scribd adds 10,000 comic books to its library

11 Feb 2015

Badass Scribd users can look forward to reading the heroic adventures of Spider-Man, The X-Men and plenty of others as the e-book subscription service expands to include the work of 10 different comic book publishers.

Customers who pay the US$8.99 per month fee can now access more than 10,000 comic books and graphic novels from publishers Marvel, Archie, IDW and Dynamite, among others.

As pointed out by The Verge, the deal marks the first time an e-book subscription service has secured a comic book partnership of this size.

Scribd users can now search through the huge back catalogue of comics by title, publisher and character to access the editions they want, as well as read character profiles and author bios.

While comics are still a chiefly print product, efforts have been made in recent years for the industry to increase its digital presence. In 2012, Marvel relaunched a number of its titles under the ‘Marvel NOW’ banner, which included the introduction of free digital copies to customers who bought the physical title.
