There’s plenty of choice out there when it comes to choosing an online radio or music streaming service, but none are quite like Magic Transistor, which transports listeners back to the grand old days when the analogue transistor radio gave baby boomers their fix of pop, rock, psych, blues and jazz.
Formed by a collective of DJs, artists, and musicians based in New York, San Francisco and London, Magic Transistor is playable in your browser, providing a fun little radio interface that lets you tune into four different radio channels.
Best of all, though, is the selection of throwback tracks on rotation. Magic Transistor sources out-of-print vinyl, alternate mixes and other rare recordings for its streams, so whatever track your station of choice spins next, there’s a good chance you won’t easily find it anywhere else.
“We seek to shed light on exceptional artifacts of cultural significance, and are primarily focused on organising and disseminating interesting and compelling music,” wrote the team on its homepage.
