Spotify adds lyrics to its desktop player

27 Feb 2015

Spotify users will now have the option of bringing up lyrics to songs they play with a new update to the music-streaming service’s desktop software.

Clicking the new ‘Lyrics’ button on the app’s play bar will pull up the text, which is powered by lyric catalogue Musixmatch. Users can also search and browse lyrics from Spotify’s top songs using the ‘Explore’ feature.

‘Lyrics’ comes as part of Spotify’s latest update, which is currently being rolled out. Also tweaked has been the ‘Friend Feed’ feature to make it easier see the music other people are streaming, while the Spotify charts will receive a total revamp to include daily viral charts and indicators to highlight new music.

“We’re excited to bring an update to one of our key platforms – one that makes the experience smoother and introduces some great features and integrations” said Dave Price, director of product at Spotify, upon the announcement.
