Let’s rewatch John Oliver’s FIFA corruption report now that arrests have been made – Gigglebit

TV presenter John Oliver

Don’t say you weren’t warned about this.

A few episodes of John Oliver’s satirical news show Last Week Tonight had already aired by the time the British comedian set his sights on football’s grotesque governing body FIFA, but it was that report that truly made people take notice of the show. Over 13 blistering and hilarious minutes, Oliver calls the organisation out on everything from sexist remarks by its president Sepp Blatter, to turning a blind eye to poor treatment of migrant workers building World Cup stadiums, to the many accusations of corruption levelled at FIFA officials.

With yesterday’s news that seven senior figures within the organisation have been arrested on US corruption charges and face extradition from Switzerland, now seems like a good time to refresh ourselves on why this crackdown is well overdue. Below is Oliver’s original report in full, which having been posted to YouTube shortly after the show first aired on HBO, has since gone viral, clocking up more than 10 million views.
