Instagram changing its website for the better

10 Jun 2015

Instagram is freshening up its website this week, bringing in a slightly more streamlined display of users’ now-larger photos.

Profile pages will be showing a new grid of images, three-wide, taking up the space that five pictures took up previously.

It kind of mirrors what Instagram’s app has been doing for a while now, with borders vanishing and circular profile pictures becoming the norm.

It’s actually not a huge change, nor is it too surprising, but it’s welcome all the same.

Instagram has been all about the change in recent months. Back in March it brought out another way to style your pics, with custom layouts all the easier and plenty of collages – very much the ‘in’ thing at the moment.

Only available on iOS at the moment, the new app basically automatically creates layouts of multiple images, reacting as you choose photos from your camera roll.

In April, more filters were added – although this is becoming a regular occurrence – as well as editing tools, and only last week the company announced plans to overhaul how it sells ad space.

Now smaller companies can advertise and, by working together with Facebook, Instagram will soon enable advertisers to target people “not just because of their age, location and gender, but because of the people, places and things they love”.
