Cinime, an app that lets users play interactive games on cinema screens, is now available in Ireland

It’s now appropriate to use your smartphone while at the cinema as Cinime brings interactive games to the big screen.

Cinime is a smartphone app that turns the wait before a film screening into an interactive multiplayer game.

Launching today in 71 cinemas across Ireland, Cinime users will be able to play games such as Beat the Intro, where they have to guess famous movie soundtracks, while they wait for films to start and after the film has ended.

Leave Cinime open when the trailers are rolling and it recognises what films were previewed, making it easy for you to remind yourself later.

Cinime also has in-app trailers for users to check out and the app connects with cinemas for ticket-booking services.

An interactive cinema experience

Cinime was built to enhance the cinema-going experience and make it more interactive, but on the business side this also allows brands to connect with their audience via their smartphones.

“We aim to build a close relationship with brands and cinemas, helping them make the most of one of media’s most highly-engaged audiences by providing creative experiences,” said Cinime CEO Alastair Simpson.

For Irish cinemas, this means adding posters to their foyers that activate augmented reality content on the app, and engaging app users with competitions and exclusive targeted content.

The rollout of Cinime to 479 cinema screens across the country comes through a deal with Wide Eye Media, one of Ireland’s largest media sales houses.

“Ireland has one of the highest cinema admissions per capita in Europe, and Cinime provides a huge opportunity for cinemas and brands to capitalise on this highly-engaged target audience,” said Eoin Wrixon, general manager of Wide Eye Media.

Simpson estimates that 1.2m people will get to play along with Cinime on the big screen every month in Ireland.

The app is free to download from the App Store and Google Play.
