Tammy and the T-Rex phone scene changes what we know about dinosaurs

12 Oct 2015

The phone scene from the long-forgotten film Tammy and the T-Rex was shot with tongue firmly placed in-cheek, but seeing a fake dinosaur use a pay phone is a joy to behold.

Released in 1994, the film features both Denise Richards and the late Fast and Furious star Paul Walker in some of their earliest screen appearances as an ideal high school couple that ends up going into weird places.

In this case, Paul Walker’s character (Michael) is attacked by Denise Richard’s (Tammy) jealous ex-boyfriend and, bizarrely, dumped into a lion pit where he ends up getting killed.

But alas, this was not the end for Michael as a mad scientist decided that he could be saved by taking his brain and putting it into the body of a robot T-Rex.

Yes, you would be right in saying this sounds like an amazing film and you would be right, simply for how hilariously cheap the production quality is of a giant animatronic robot dinosaur lumbering its way around the set.

But perhaps the greatest scene is when, confused and scared as to why he’s now a dinosaur all of a sudden, Michael attempts to call Tammy from a pay phone.

Who would have thought that, despite its tiny arms, it could operate a phone?
