Pokémon, the card game, computer game and cartoon from the early 1990s that just won’t die, is about to enjoy a fresh surge of popularity, with Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon out later this year.
Yesterday, Pokémon logos were leaked, hinting at the Sun and Moon titles and, within a few hours, the next wave of Pokémon fans have been shown what’s coming down the line.
Later this year the “next era” will be released, globally, in nine languages, with both games destined for the Nintendo 3DS – for those unaware, it’s the first new iteration of the franchise since 2013.
“We hope that, through Pokémon, players can overcome language barriers and interact with other players from around the world,” said CEO of The Pokémon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara.
And with that, we were treated to a pretty fun promo video.
The first Pokémon (Red and Green) games came out 20 years ago. Gold and Silver followed in 1999, before Ruby and Sapphire (2002), Diamond and Pearl (2006), Black and White (2010) and X & Y in 2013 kept the franchise alive.
In even more nostalgic news for kids of the 1990s, the famous trading cards are coming back, too. Which could provide you with some nice investment plans, seeing as one original ‘Holy Grail’ card is on eBay for the princely sum of $30,000.
