A 40 minute preview of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has been released to YouTube, including footage of the game’s menus, customisation options and, of course, gameplay.

The video sees Snake deployed in the middle of the desert before sneaking his way into an enemy compound and stealth-killing a bunch of enemies is his trademark Snake way. Our hero also has a dog he can deploy to sniff out items and distract guards.

Judging from the preview, this latest instalment in the long-running series will often gamers more open-world freedom than ever before, allowing you to choose from a number of routes, vehicles and weapons as you decide the best course of action to complete your objectives. There’s also plenty of that trademark MG silliness afoot though. At one point Snake attaches a balloon to a soldier’s belt to send them high into the sky – very inconspicuous.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is due out this September. Click below to watch the preview.
