The Google Doodle celebrating the 50th anniversary of TV programme Dr Who

Internet search giant Google is celebrating the 50th anniversary of TV programme Dr Who with its largest interactive Google Doodle yet on its homepage today that invites users to play a game.

When users land on the Google homepage, they will see Timelords bouncing across the top of the stylised Google logo and a ‘play’ button replacing the second ‘o’ in ‘Google’. Clicking on the play button unleashes a dalek that zaps the word and begins the 8-bit platform game.

Complete with sound effects from the show, the game lets users play Dr Who through all his 11 incarnations. The object of the game is to retrieve all the letters in the word ‘Google’ and return them to your TARDIS. Mind that dalek, however, otherwise you will lose a life and regenerate into the next doctor.

Mashable reports Google has having said the 50th anniversary of Dr WhoWhoodle‘ is its largest interactive doodle yet, and had been in the works for four months.

Some 4,000 Dr Who fans had petitioned Google to create a Doodle in honour of the 50th anniversary of the programme.
