Quantic Dream has taken its unique brand of interactive cinematic video games to the next level in having its next release chosen as an Official Selection for the Tribeca Film Festival.

Beyond: Two Souls will be released on PlayStation 3 on 8 October and its developers have recruited Oscar-nominated talent for a high-quality cinematic experience where gamers’ decisions affect the plot.

Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe take on the roles of Jodie Holmes and Nathan Dawkins, and not just by lending these characters their voices. Scenes were performed by the experienced actors and recorded using motion-capture technology. Judging by the stunningly realistic visuals demonstrated by Quantic Dream at the PlayStation 4 announcement last month, we think Beyond might look as close to a movie as a video game can get.

Which is perhaps why it has become the first video game to be named a Tribeca Film Festival Official Selection. What this means is that a one-hour scene from the game will be screened at the festival on 27 April, as well as a new trailer and a behind-the-scenes look. This will be followed by a Q&A with the game’s writer and director David Cage and Page.

Thankfully, for those of us who won’t make it to lower Manhattan for the screening, the event will be live-streamed on the PlayStation Blog.
