Breaking Bad series finale breaks Twitter, viewership records

The series finale of Breaking Bad has cooked up records for both its viewership and Twitter activity. The final episode of the five-season crime drama on Sunday generated 1.24m tweets in the US and drew 10.3m viewers, according to Twitter.

Kate Bowen, of Twitter’s TV Partnerships, Talent Relations, wrote on the Twitter blog that SocialGuide (which measures only US conversation) indicated there were 1.24m tweets about the Breaking Bad finale, with conversation peaking at 22,373 tweets per minute (TPM) as the episode began.

The hashtag #GoodbyeBreakingBad trended on the microblogging site throughout the episode was used nearly nearly 500,000 times.

#GoodbyeBreakingBad and ‘Breaking Bad’ trended in Ireland yesterday, with ‘Breaking Bad’ still trending in the country today.

Tweets from the show’s stars, @BryanCranston (Walter White) and @AaronPaul_8 (Jesse Pinkman), were two of the most retweeted tweets of the night. Twitter users retweeted Cranston’s tweet more than 54,000 times and Paul’s tweet went out again more than 21,000 times.
