Breaking Bad spin-off coming to Netflix members worldwide in 2014

16 Dec 2013

Actor Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman

Bob Odenkirk from Breaking Bad will return in the guise of crooked lawyer Saul Goodman in a spin-off series set to reach Netflix users in Europe and Latin America within days of its US broadcast.

Better Call Saul will air on AMC Networks in the US in 2014. The show has been co-created and executive produced by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and follows Goodman’s exploits before he found himself in the employ of the now-infamous Walter ‘Heisenberg’ White.

Gilligan will co-write the series with Peter Gould, who worked with him on Breaking Bad and created the character of Saul Goodman.

No doubt Netflix hopes the spin-off series will ride the coat-tails of its successful parent, all five seasons of which are still available on the streaming network.

Breaking Bad is widely recognised as one of the great TV experiences in this new golden age of television. It has also proven very popular with Netflix subscribers around the world,” said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer of Netflix. “This spin-off promises to continue its tradition of powerful storytelling. We are proud to be in business with Sony Pictures Television to bring Saul Goodman to our subscribers around the world.”

Netflix managed to secure exclusive subscription TV service rights in all its territories for Better Call Saul and the complete first series will be available to Netflix users in the US and Canada following the season finale.
