Facebook reportedly planning to add games to Messenger

18 May 2015

Facebook is toying with the idea of adding games to its Messenger service.

That’s according to The Information reports, which cite Ilya Sukhar – the founder and CEO of Parse, a mobile infrastructure firm acquired by Facebook in 2013 – as a source.

The report claims that Facebook is currently holding preliminary discussions with game developers about its Messenger platform, but three sources close to the company plus Sukhar say that no definitive timeline has been laid out.

Sukhar himself will be tasked with leading the product side for Messenger’s platform, according to The Information.

If true, gaming will be the latest string added to Facebook’s messaging service’s bow. In March the company began allowing US-based users to transfer cash to each other via the platform as easily as they send photos.
