The popular musical TV programme Glee is to feature Rebecca Black’s love-it-or-hate-it song Friday on its prom episode.

Actors Kevin McHale (Artie), Chord Overstreet (Sam) and Mark Salling (Puck) will reportedly be covering the 13-year-old’s song that has been criticised for its monotone sound and simplistic lyrics.

The Independent in the UK has called it “the worst song ever” and the majority of feedback on Twitter was negative towards the video, which had gone viral on YouTube. Internet search giant Yahoo! had even asked, “Is YouTube sensation Rebecca Black’s Friday the worst song ever?”

Friday debuted at No 69 on iTunes’ top 100 in early March.

Black joins good company on Glee. Madonna, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears are among the artists the show has covered.

The video for Friday, meanwhile, has now been watched more than 100m times on YouTube.
