PlatinumGames will use Havok Physics and Havok Animation to power Sega’s upcoming new title VANQUISH.
VANQUISH is set in the near future and features Russia and the US vying for ownership of the world’s depleting energy resources.
The US constructed a space station to harness the sun’s energy. However, Russian forces capture the station and divert the energy into a blast wave that destroys San Francisco, hoping to force the US into a total surrender.
In response, the US tasks its forces with recapturing the space station before the Russians get to their next target – New York.
The game involves Havok’s technologies, such as Havok Physics and Havok Animation.
Havok has offices in Dublin, Tokyo and San Francisco, and provides interactive software and services to the game and movie industries.
The technology has been featured in games such as Halo 3, Heavy Rain and Bioshock 2.
“VANQUISH is one of the most anticipated game titles of 2010 worldwide and we are thrilled to be a part of it,” said Arnaud Saint Martin, Asia sales director for Havok.
“Our dedicated Japanese support team worked closely with the PlatinumGames team to help them make the best use of Havok’s Physics and Animation technologies and deliver a fast, frenetic, intense and impressive gaming experience.”
VANQUISH will be released in Europe on 22 October.
