A man in his thirties who had not slept, barely ate, hardly moved from his computer and reportedly spent more than 10,000 yuan (nearly €1,100) on internet gaming over the past month has died after playing games online for three days straight.

The unnamed man collapsed and slipped into a coma Monday evening at an internet cafe outside Beijing, China, the Beijing Times reported. He was rushed to a clinic where he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Police removed several computers from the cafe as part of their investigation, which includes examining specific causes of death. They have ruled out homicide.

The man’s death underscores the number of ‘internet addicts’ in China, which, according to researchers, includes more than 30 million people.
