People power at the heart of NewsWhip’s new iOS and Android app

25 Jun 2014

Dublin-based digital media start-up NewsWhip has released a new app that gathers stories from thousands of global sources as they’re shared on Twitter and Facebook.

Users can check out what news is spreading fastest in 10 different countries and regions (such as the US, the UK or Ireland), as well as across 50 topic niches, as varied as design, science, arts, politics and psychology.

The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices, updates in real-time and is categorised by country and topic.

Users can personalise their display using the ‘My Whips’ section, and also share the stories directly to their own Facebook and Twitter accounts using the app.

“NewsWhip’s stories can come from anywhere – all they have in common is that thousands of people decided they were worth sharing,” said NewsWhip CTO Andrew Mullaney.

“It makes for a stream of news that’s sometimes silly, sometimes dead serious, sometimes emotional, but always engaging.”
