PlayStation app to be released for iOS and Android

17 Dec 2010

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) is planning to release an official PlayStation app for iPhones, iPod touches and Android devices.

The app will be compatible with devices with iOS4 and Android 1.6 and up.

It will allow users to check their PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with friends’ games and statuses.

It will also let users discover new games and hardware for their PlayStation consoles.

The PlayStation app will allow users to check the European PlayStation blog and users can share favourite products and news with friends on Facebook, Twitter and email.

Version 1.0 will only be available for the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands for Europe, but the next version will support “most SCEE countries and languages.”

Interestingly, a leaked video of the rumoured PlayStation Phone caught a view of a PlayStation app on the Android device, which held a library of games.

And with SCEE saying it is planning to have “tons more features” for the app, perhaps gaming on the app will soon be possible.

A release date for the app hasn’t been confirmed as of yet.
