Popular PlayStation 3 action-adventure game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is set to get a movie makeover and will star Mark Wahlberg in the lead role.
The combined 3D platforming and third-person shooter follows the story of Nathan Drake – the supposed descendant of Francis Drake – as he shoots, swings, swims and stumbles his way across the Amazon in search of the lost treasure of El Dorado.
Wahlberg, who is no stranger to video-game movies – having taken the title role in the ill-fated Max Payne makeover – will play lead protagonist Drake, according to MTV.
Movie spinoffs
With a game so action packed and ripe with witty dialogue, a movie makeover seems redundant and might fall by the wayside like so many others before it that failed to get the point – Streetfighter The Movie, Super Mario Bros, Doom, Resident Evil (a film franchise that, much like its zombified cast members, refuses to die), and Silent Hill – to name but a few.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves built on the success of the first game, and delivered a bigger, better, more engaging experience.
Whether Uncharted: The Movie will even merit a sequel, considering the video-game movie-makeover poison chalice, remains doubtful.
