SongPop is a hit in Facebook’s top 25 social games of 2012

5 Dec 2012

Calling it the most diverse and global year for social games to date, Facebook has revealed its 25 top-rated social games of 2012, with SongPop coming straight in at No 1.

To be eligible for the list, games had to be launched this year and have at least 100,000 monthly active Facebook users. The list not only includes gaming apps available on Facebook.com, as social mobile games for the iPhone, iPad and Android, where users log in via Facebook, make up 44pc of the chart.

Rankings are based on star ratings by users, positive and negative user signals, and engagement levels over the course of the year.

Topping the charts is music trivia app SongPop by FreshPlanet, beating the likes of Rovio’s Angry Birds Friends. This was followed by social mobile games Dragon City, where users breed their own dragons and battle others, and Bike Race, which is exactly what you’d expect from that title.

Throughout the list, action and arcade games were most popular among this year’s releases.

US developer Zynga, which has had a year of ups and downs, developed most of the games on the list, including FarmVille 2 and Draw Something. But, according to Facebook, most games launched in 2012 came from developers outside of the US, in France, Spain, the UK, Brazil, South Korea, Australia and Turkey.
