Sony’s PlayStation Network will be down for four hours tomorrow

Gamers worldwide may have to find an alternate source of entertainment tomorrow as Sony’s PlayStation Network will go offline for four hours.

IGN reports that maintenance will occur on the network from 5pm Ireland time, meaning users won’t be able to access the PS Store, their PSN account, or registration and entertainment services.

While online gameplay will also be affected, gamers who sign into their account before maintenance begins will be able to continue playing throughout the disruption.

The PlayStation network went down last August after falling victim to a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack that no doubt brought up painful memories of the massive attack on the gaming network in 2011, when more than 100m users’ personal data was hacked.

Last month, Microsoft’s Xbox overtook the PlayStation by outselling the console in November – a critical month in the pair’s ongoing tussle for hardware supremacy as the holiday season heated up.
