With more than 3.4m sales worldwide in less than a month, The Last of Us is not only the fastest-selling PlayStation 3 title of 2013 (so far), it’s also the fastest-selling new PS3 franchise title ever.

The critically acclaimed action-adventure video game was developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment exclusively for the PlayStation 3.

The rich narrative of the game follows protagonists Joel and Ellie on their journey of survival in a future where a virulent fungus has ravaged much of the human population and turned them into zombie-like creatures.

The realism of the game’s world, the emotional depth of the storyline and the gameplay – which allows players to approach challenges with a variety of strategies and techniques while also prompting different reactions in their enemies – have all been commended by fans.

“These sales figures are a testament to the blockbuster quality of The Last of Us,” said Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. “The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none, this title is an undisputed demonstration of that.”
