Viral videos of the week: Fainting dog, anchor dog and x-rated cooking

3 Aug 2014

We take a look at some of the most-viewed and most-shared videos on the web. This week features more adorable and bizarre dogs while one woman attempts to out-curse Gordon Ramsay on her own home cooking show.

About 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, 500 years of video watched on Facebook every day, and more than 700 YouTube videos shared on Twitter each minute, ensuring there is always video trending on the web.

With so much video available for viewing, we take a look at some of the viral videos that have caught our eye this week.

Dog passes out from overwhelming joy

I can imagine if this dog could talk he would be saying “ermahgerd, ermahgerd, ermahgerd!” as it meets its owner for the first time in two years after she has been in Slovenia before moving back to the US.

The friendly little scamp greets her with a series of yelps and forgets that old age problem during excitement and forgets how to breathe.

Thankfully, the dog, Casey, was checked out by the vet just in case and everything was fine.

GoPro: Epic Roof Jump

In the latest in a series of videos posted featuring GoPro wearable cameras, stuntman Ethan Swanson takes the saying ‘leap of faith’ to a whole new level.

Filmed in Chicago, Illinois, he attempts to leap from the roof of one building, slide down the angular roof of the next building before attempting to land in the spiral staircase in the building after that.

No, really.

The internet is still trying to claim it’s fake and, given another GoPro video where a man escaped a shark in Sydney Harbour was also accused of being fake, it’s not outside the realms of possibility but is still sweat-inducing none-the-less.

News team attacked in haunted house

Orbs! Scratches! Doors closing by themselves! These are all the things we associate with a Hollywood ghost movie but for the news team of Fox43 in Pennsylvania this was, allegedly, the real deal.

The reporter, photographer and cameraman entered the house and found themselves physically under attack within minutes, again, allegedly.

One video even shows the homeowner asking for the spirit to close the door at her command only for it to happen a second later in what could be an easily faked scene.

Sense this reporter’s scepticism yet? Either way a nice video for all you ghost believers out there.

Sweet Treats for the kids (NSFW)

While Gordon Ramsey fills the airways with expletives on his numerous cooking shows, one woman in the US is attempting to out-do the British chef in her own bizarre home cooking show where she’s filmed making, let’s just say, interesting-looking recipes with her ‘Sweet Treats’.

While appearing rather friendly, Auntie Fee or ‘Sista Gurl’ as she is known on YouTube has only been on the site since 30 July and in the space of a day reached over 800,000 views on this video alone.

Dog braking system

If I had four legs, this is how I would imagine I’d stop myself each time.

In what is either a lazy or genius way of stopping herself with little effort, Stella the dog uses her hind legs as two little anchors that ground themselves when she wants to stop.

And here’s I’ve been using my muscles to stop myself like a sucker this whole time!

Sadie doesn’t want her brother to grow up

Anyone with kids is likely to tear up at the sight of this.

Poor little Sadie is five-years-old and is already coming to terms with ageing and even death as she looks at her drooling and laughing little brother and realising that he’s not going to stay cute and baby-like forever and finds this deeply upsetting.

She even talks about her own death and not wanting to live to 100 years of age…steady on, Sadie, you’ve 95 years left before then!

Captain Kirk’s major mood swings

This classic clip of the legendary William Shatner as Captain James T Kirk in the original Star Trek series has a rather unique, bizarre and violent way to show his affection for one of the many alien women that he came across on his travels on the show.

I’m sure there’s some context to this clip but seeing as it was the 1960s it’s highly likely that she would have said something rather innocuous…or the more likely answer was she attempted to steal his brain in some freakish alien experiment.

Poker player loses US$1m after incredible bad beat

Now I’m not particularly au-fait with the world of poker, particularly the high-stakes kind, but I think I know enough to get that this is not so much a kick to the stomach to professional poker player Connor Drinan, but rather a work boot encrusted with diamonds and gold worth US$1m to the stomach.

Duking it out with fellow poker player Cary Katz, Drinan ends up running out of look only to see US$1m slip through his fingers right in front of him.

If you look closely, you can actually pin-point the second his heart breaks…
