Still from 'How to Uninstall McAfee Antivirus' by John Mcafee on YouTube

We take a look at some of the most-viewed and most-shared videos on the web. This week features dogs freaking out over citrus fruits, a Dublin-based Bear Grylls parody, a cool experiment with ice, Ben Lapps’ musical basketball style, Miss Utah’s thoughts on education, and self-described ‘eccentric millionaire’ John McAfee.

About 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, 500 years of video watched on Facebook every day, and more than 700 YouTube videos shared on Twitter each minute, ensuring there is always video trending on the web.

With so much video available for viewing, we take a look at some of the viral videos that have caught our eye this week.

Miss Utah

At the Miss USA Pageant last Sunday night, the questions round turned out to be a real headscratcher for Miss Utah (known in her non-pageant life as Marissa Powell), who seems to have cobbled together fragments of rehearsed answers into a single, incoherent mess. “We need to figure out how to create education better,” indeed. Despite the flubbed response, she did manage to pull a respectable third place, nonetheless.

Bear Grylls: North Dublin

Bear Grylls has tested his survival skills in the wilds of Ireland before, but this parody by YouTuber Seán Burke imagines how he would have fared in the suburban sprawl of north County Dublin. Guaranteed, he would find some unconventional sources of protein.

Extreme Ice Cube Stunts 2013

Despite the product placement from Coca-Cola and McDonald’s, this video showing a creatively complex way to get 63 ice cubes into 61 glasses (plus some straws for good measure) would make Rube Goldberg proud.

How Ben Lapps plays basketball

Ben Lapps, if you don’t already know, is a talented teen guitarist who first made it big on YouTube two years ago with a video showcasing his musical talents. Posted to the YouTube account Gomarionettes, this first video has accrued almost 7m views to date, while his latest amassed more than 300,000 in less than a day. And, if you think that’s impressive, just wait ’til you see his basketball skills.

Dogs vs Citrus

Canines and citrus fruits aren’t a good match – unless, of course, your intention is to make a funny animal-based YouTube video. In that case, carry on.

How to uninstall McAfee Antivirus

Finally, we leave you with the madness of John McAfee, the McAfee, Inc, founder who last year made headlines following his arrest in Belize on drugs and weapons charges and, later that same year, an investigation as a person of interest in his neighbour’s murder. McAfee went on the run to Guatemala and was subsequently discovered and deported back to the US. But what’s an accused man to do now that he’s back on his home turf? Why, make a NSFW viral video poking fun at your former company’s software and your own depiction in the media, of course.
