Hays reveals how graduates can prepare for a career in tech

5 Sep 2014

Hays senior consultant Anne-Marie Walsh shares her insights into graduate schemes and emerging careers in tech.

Walsh works in the graduate IT jobs market and has taken note of the areas of greatest demand for graduates of IT and engineering courses. She also explains how graduate schemes in multinational corporations can differ from trainee programmes in SMEs or start-ups and how each of these career routes might appeal to different types of graduates.

Getting a place on a graduate programme is competitive, and Walsh advises that a strong degree is just a start and suggests some other skills or achievements that can give applicants an edge.

Walsh also informs us of the key growth areas in tech and the skills and technologies that third-level students can focus on now for career opportunities in the future.
