Career Zoo to welcome 10,000 attendees in Dublin

12 Feb 2015

Networking event Career Zoo, hosted at Dublin’s Convention Centre, opens its doors soon to thousands of visitors – many looking to get a job there on the day.

Indeed following the release of a report this week indicating business intelligence and data analysis has driven Irish IT employment figures up, overall professional job vacancies are up almost a quarter on this time last year.

“The ICT sector nationally remains buoyant and (there is) demand for permanent and contract professionals, particularly for developers with experience in programming languages, such as Java, .NET and UI,” said Bryan Hyland, Morgan McKinley Ireland’s operations director.

Booming scene

This booming IT scene in Ireland has been attracting more and more job applicants in recent years, with the gap between employer demand and employee supply finally starting to narrow.

With this, many will attend Career Zoo looking to get their foot in the door at one of the many major players in attendance on Saturday, 21 February.

Some of those companies looking to fill positions include Accenture and event sponsors Workday and Liberty IT.

Workday announced 200 jobs last year that are still being filled, with CTO Annrai O’Toole confident his team will meet “the best talent” at the event.

“(Career Zoo) will be a great way for us to find the best talent. Dublin is the tech hub of Europe and with our focus on research and development, product and technology development, customer support, services and sales, we look forward to meeting potential candidates who want to join our team and make a difference,” O’Toole added.

Liberty IT’s HR director Cathy Donnelly said it’s people, as well as innovation, at the core of the company’s success.

“You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies within a forward-thinking, collaborative and fun environment,” said Donnelly. “So, if you are a driven and talented individual who likes a challenge, wants to develop your career and would like to be part of Liberty IT’s growth and success, we want to talk to you at Career Zoo.”

Liberty IT will be offering opportunities across all levels of software engineering, focusing on Java, .NET, Ruby, database and test engineering, in addition to incident management.

Accenture, fresh from announcing 250 new jobs in Ireland, will also be seeking the right candidates. The new roles span a range of skills and capabilities and offer opportunities for candidates, from experienced executives to entry level, including graduates.

“We are seeking highly motivated, skilled individuals who share our passion and commitment to client service,” said Alastair Blair, Accenture’s country managing director in Ireland.

“Professionals who join our team will have access to the latest technology and will receive training and professional development opportunities to expand their business, industry and technical skills.”

Ramping up activities

Brian Ó hOisín, director of Career Zoo, said following the success of Career Zoo in September, “we’re now ramping up activities to make this February our biggest event yet with even more new features.

“A standout feature for spring is the Coder Hack Space, where coders can bring their coding problems and speak to one of their peers across many coding languages, including Python, Java, Clojure, Ruby, Ruby on Rails, .NET, F# and C++.

“We’re expecting upwards of 10,000 attendees to take over the Convention Centre, where there will be thousands of jobs with Ireland’s leading tech employers on offer. This is an amazing opportunity for attendees to advance their careers with some really terrific companies.”

Tech start-up opportunity at Career Zoo

The Dublin Commissioner for Startups office in conjunction with Career Zoo is launching an opportunity for a Dublin tech start-up company to showcase itself at the event.

The chosen start-up will be given a prominent display stand in the Tech Town area, showcasing its business to Ireland’s talent, as well as being given a high-profile platform in the run-up to and on the day. Interested start-ups can find out more on the Career Zoo website.

Registration is now open for the free event here.
