First Irish YouthSpeak forum to tackle UN global goals

11 Apr 2016

AIESEC in Ireland will be launching its first YouthSpeak Forum on Friday, 13 May in Dublin, providing a platform for Irish youth to discuss and take action on the UN global goals intersecting the education, government, corporate and non-profit sectors.

To be hosted at the O’Callaghan Alexander Hotel in Dublin, the one-day YouthSpeak Forum aims to create an environment where people from diverse backgrounds can share ideas and insights and gain new perspectives.

The forum aims to create outcomes to push the world forward, with a particular focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The European Commission recently established an independent expert group to advise on the role of science, technology and innovation in implementing the global goals. Its conclusions were clear: “Science, technology and innovation is a key tool for moving the world onto a sustainable path”.

The agenda includes keynote addresses from Mark Mitchell, director of GradIreland; Tony Donohoe, head of education, social and innovation policy at IBEC; and Linda Barry, assistant director of SFA.

The event will conclude with a panel discussion on the topic of Youth for Global Goals. This will be chaired by Vincent Herlihy of Irish Aid, and will feature representatives from One for Ireland, Comhlámh, Dublin Chamber of Commerce and NYCI.

Also featuring in the forum will be interactive workshops from companies including HubSpot, PwC and Twitter.

The agenda will conclude with an expert panel on the topic of Youth for Global Goals, and there will also be an opportunity for attendees to network.

YouthSpeak: a global movement

The forum represents just one part of the global YouthSpeak movement, which aims to shine a light on the issues that matter, creating awareness and generating action.

The movement is operated by AIESEC, one of the world’s largest youth-run organisations, which has a presence in more than 125 countries and territories, and which has 67 years’ experience in developing youth leadership through experiential learning, international volunteering and professional internships.

AIESEC is on a mission to collect 200,000 youth opinions through the YouthSpeak survey, and will be hosting YouthSpeak Forums across the world to better understand how the journey from education to action can be improved.

The Dublin forum is a ticketed event, with tickets available through Eventbrite.

Workshop spaces are still available for companies interested in engaging with students on the topics of sustainability, innovation and social responsibility and those interested can contact alexa.goldsmith1@aiesec.net for further information.
