Could this become the world’s fastest electric powerboat?

A striking concept boat has made an appearance at the Miami International Boat Show this week. Inspired by electric-car technology being pioneered by Mercedes, Cigarette Racing has teamed up with the auto giant to create what the duo is calling the world’s most powerful and fastest electrically driven powerboat.

This week, Cigarette Racing and Mercedes-AMG unveiled the boat at the Miami International Boat Show. The boat, known as the AMG Electric Drive, uses components that Mercedes is engineering into its upcoming all-electric supercar, the SLS Coupé Electric Drive. The car could become the world’s fastest production electric car when it hits the marketplace this year.

Apparently the electric car will be capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds. It will have a top speed of 249 kilometres (155 miles) per hour. The total driving range for the car on full charge will be 241 kilometres (150 miles).

Prices for the coupé will start at €416,500 in Europe when the car goes on sale this summer.

As for the 11.6-metre (38-foot) long electric powerboat, it is being called the Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept. The concept boat harnesses many components that Mercedes is using to create its electric supercar.

The boat is kitted out with 12 compact, liquid-cooled electric motors, three of which feature in the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive.

The boat is powered by four of the same 60-kWh lithium-ion batteries used in the Mercedes vehicle to give the boat a top speed of more than 160 kilometres (100 miles) per hour. These batteries are set to generate a total capacity of 240 kilowatt hours and a maximum voltage of 400 volts.

Visually, the boat is painted in matte chrome yellow, with the official colour called “AMG Electricbeam magno” used for the Mercedes electric coupé.
