Smart water meters from metering solutions provider Elster are now compatible with the meter reading and meter data management system from Irish company Temetra.
Temetra, which was founded in 2002 in Clonmel, Co Tipperary, develops software, delivered over the web, for managing meters and meter readings and now manages more than 60pc of all water meters in Ireland.
The company is also part of Ireland’s National Smart Meter Plan, due to its smart metering work with Bord Gáis Networks.
Speaking about the integration of Elster’s smart water meters into its system, Temetra co-founder Paul Barry said it would offer customers a wider choice of meter and AMR (automatic meter reading) technology.
“In particular, the innovative V200 and V210 hybrid water meters with integrated radios will offer our customers highly advanced data features for the market,” he said.
Smart metering and Ireland
In May 2011, the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) released the results of its smart metering trials, which pointed to how smart meter technologies could have the potential to provide a net benefit to customers and Ireland of up to about €174m over the next 15 to 20 years.
In August, CER is expected to launch a consultation on the possible design of a national smart meter rollout programme, with a decision on a national rollout and its design to be made in October.
