Galway Education Centre and Athenry Maths Academy have teamed up with the Irish-based online learning company ALISON to launch a free interactive maths resource for students of the Leaving Cert maths curriculum at both higher and ordinary level.

The resources will cover ‘strand one’ of the Leaving Cert Project Maths syllabus – probability and statistics.

Two Galway-based Project Maths-trained teachers created the resources, along with the Galway Education Centre and the Athenry Maths Academy.

The free online courses will include video lectures and interactive lessons from teachers and tutors. If the free resources for strand one prove popular amongst students, resources for the remaining four strands will be rolled out later this year.

Speaking at the launch of the new Leaving Cert maths resource yesterday, Ciarán Cannon, TD, the Minister of State at the Department of Education, said it would complement the maths teaching that already happens in the classroom.

“Having these extra resources available free and online allows students to enhance their understanding at a pace of their own choosing,” he said.

Students can access the multimedia resources via Alison.com.
