Ten of Ireland’s leading clean tech companies are showcasing their technology solutions across sectors such as water/wastewater, waste management, renewable energy and energy efficiency/green building in Canada this week at one of the world’s largest events dedicated to the business of the environment.

The Globe 2010 event, which is taking place in Vancouver, offers the 10 Irish firms an opportunity to mix with buyers and key decision makers from the US and Canada, as well as to the attendees who have come from more than 70 countries, including Germany, France, the UK, China, South Korea and Japan.

“North America offers strong opportunity for Ireland’s clean-tech sector. The Canadian renewables market alone is expected to grow in the coming years to reach a value of $42.4bn,” explained Marina Donohoe, manager of Enterprise Ireland’s green tech division.

“The clean-tech sector is a key component of the Canada’s Economic Action Plan (stimulus package of about $50bn) and the country has dedicated US$1bn to a five-year, nationwide Green Infrastructure Fund,” she added.

Irish companies are already winning business in Canada. For example, tidal-energy firm OpenHydro, which will be exhibiting at Globe 2010, is working with leading Canadian utility Nova Scotia Power to create a tidal demonstration project in the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia, Canada. Nova Scotia Power provides more than 97pc of the electricity generation, transmission and distribution across the Canadian province of Nova Scotia.
