7 Nov 2012

The European Research Council has awarded Prof Bashar Nuseibeh from Lero, the Irish Software Engineering Research Centre, a grant worth €2.5m to carry out research in adaptive security and privacy, particularly in relation to new mobile computing devices, such as smartphones, and as a result of ubiquitous computing.

The research programme will run for five years and will be a collaborative effort between Lero at the University of Limerick (UL) and the Open University in the UK.

Key focus areas will be on privacy and security threats that are emerging as a result of new mobile and ubiquitous technologies, such as smartphones and cloud-based services.

The aim of the research will be to investigate techniques for developing software systems that protect users from changing privacy and security threats.

Nuseibeh will be leading research teams at the Open University and at UL. He joined Lero in 2009 and is also a visiting professor at Imperial College London and at the National Institute of Informatics in Tokyo, Japan.
