The €92m invested last year is a miniscule investment by comparison to what we should be investing in our schools. Is it safe or sensible for us to spend €92m on ICT infrastructure and then not continue to invest in getting the most out of this technology?

We can begin by educating the educators, by making sure this technology is used correctly and by advising parents in the use of technology, making sure that this technology is used in the home, that it is accessed afterwards, that we use the latest developments in cloud computing for parents to check what course work is being done and that parents get involved to see where this money is being spent.

If we don’t follow up the initial investment, we’re going to find ourselves slipping down the global rankings very quickly and in a position where it will cost more to put things right.
