Back in 1998, the Dot-com bubble was gathering steam and people who wouldn’t have been technologically minded were asking, what is the internet?
One person who was trying to get their head around it was none other than fictional hero to many, Homer Simpson who in the episode ‘Das Bus’ typifies the rush to get some of that ‘internet money’ after seeing his next-door neighbour, Ned Flanders, earning money with his online business, Flancrest Enterprises.
With his own start-up, Compu-Global-Hyper-Mega-Net, Homer begins his operations by trying to sell his non-existent business to the biggest nerd in town, Jeff Albertson, or as he’s more commonly known, Comic Book Guy.
As much as Homer is confused by the tech spec, we can nostalgically look back at Comic Book Guy wanting a ‘1.5Mb fibre optic T1 line’.
