Hamburg start-up Jimdo's platform has helped build over 15m websites. Now with new funding it is setting its sights even higher.

Hamburg-based do-it-yourself website builder Jimdo has raises €25m in minority investment from Spectrum Equity.

Founded in 2007 by Christian Springub, Fridtjof Detzner, and Matthias Henze, the company has been profitable since 2009.

Jimdo was the first website builder to become cross-platform with the release of its iOS app in 2013 and its Android app in 2014.

The company employs 200 people in Hamburg, San Francisco and Tokyo.

The platform is available in eight languages and has helped people to build more than 15m websites.

“We are incredibly proud of having built Jimdo with only €500,000 of outside capital,” said Matthias Henze, co-founder of Jimdo.

“But now it is time to take Jimdo to the next level and pursue the additional product and marketing opportunities that are available to the company in this rapidly-growing market.

“For this step we are happy that we have found the right partner in Spectrum. They have a deep understanding of our business and have a long-term perspective — just like we do.”
