Mary Carty, a speaker at this year’s Inspirefest and co-founder of Outbox Incubator, has been appointed as executive director of the Blackstone LaunchPad at NUI Galway.

Mary Carty has been seen mentioned a few times here on Siliconrepublic.com for her efforts with the Outbox Incubator, which has the enviable position of being the world’s first incubator programme for girls under 22 who are innovating in STEM.

In its first year alone, the Outbox Incubator has managed to work with 115 girls from six countries, which has led to 35 companies being established.

The event ran for six weeks in London last summer and was devised, not only by Carty, but also the founder of Stemettes and a speaker at Inspirefest 2015, Anne-Marie Imafidon.

Now, according to Businessworld.ie, Carty has been appointed to the board of the entrepreneurship programme based on the university’s campus, which is open to students, alumni, staff and faculty to offer coaching, ideation and venture creation support.

Speaking of the appointment, the president of NUI Galway, Dr Jim Browne, said: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mary Carty as executive director of Blackstone LaunchPad at NUI Galway. Helping students to become innovators and entrepreneurs is a vital part of the student experience and important for the Irish economy.”

He continued: “In addition, the programme will build mutually beneficial relationships with other Blackstone LaunchPad sites at University College Cork and Trinity College Dublin; along with the Blackstone LaunchPad network in the USA.”
