DataHug embraces first prize at Dublin Web Summit

Irish start-up firm DataHug has won a €30,000 investment following its pitch at this year’s Dublin Web Summit.

DataHug – whose technology maps the digital relationships between people in business – won over the judges and pitched against four other start-ups during the event to earn the €30,000 Spark of Genius competition prize for 2010.

One of the judges commented that the company was “like LinkedIn on steroids, as it not only answers who knows who, but how well they know them”.

Connor Murphy, CEO of, said that while they firm is already up and running, they are enthusiastic about broadening the business.

Fantastic opportunity

“This prize offers a fantastic opportunity for DataHug to accelerate its growth and market profile. We are already live with several clients in the US, UK and Ireland, and we are looking forward to launching our public beta towards the end of this year.”

The prize in the Spark of Genius competition, which is hosted by the law firm Maples & Calder, includes €10,000 worth of legal services from Maples & Calder, €5,000 worth of support from KPMG, €10,000 in hosting services from Dediserve, €4,000 in coaching from Aristo and €2,000 in translation services from Straker.

The firm also takes away a partner package and speaking opportunity at next year’s Dublin Web Summit.

The Dublin Web Summit, which took place 28-29 October, featured YouTube founder Chad Hurley, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, and Skype’s Niklas Zennstrom and was attended by more than 600 eager entrepreneurs and enthusiasts alike.
