Free stock market mentoring at NASDAQ HQ in Big Apple

5 Dec 2011

Learn all about the bull and bear markets at NASDAQ in New York and Philadelphia, all by playing the online stock market game created by TeamTraders.com

Feeling bullish? Irish-born live stock-market game TeamTraders.com has today revealed how it’s teaming up with NASDAQ to give one third-level student a week’s free mentoring in New York, so they can get an insider’s view on what working in the stock market industry is all about.

Based in Mullingar, TeamTraders.com is a stock-market game powered by real-time data and NASDAQ OMX, the operator of some of the world’s largest market exchanges.

TeamTraders.com itself is is a software start-up, having graduated from the DIT Hothouse programme. With TeamTraders, the premise is that people can engage in stock trading virtually, without having to engage in real capital risk. The site was created to target business oriented students that want to practise in the art of real-time online stock trading. The company is currently participating in iGAP 3, the Internet Growth Acceleration Programme.

Kevin Egan, CEO, TeamTraders.com, said this morning that the NASDAQ competition is only open to students studying in Ireland and the UK, however.

So how can one go about vying for this stock market prize?

The mentorship will be awarded to the best-performing trader on the TeamTraders virtual stock trading platform at the end of December.

By registering at TeamTraders.com, virtual investors then get to invest a virtual US$100,000. You subsequently monitor your performance in real-time and compete for the internship or other prizes.

The ultimate winner of the NASDAQ prize will be heading to New York in January.

The mentorship will include:

  • Time with the NASDAQ Global Data products team
  • A tour of Wall Street
  • The winning student will take a train to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to spend a day at NASDAQ’s Philadelphia stock exchange. This will include a tour of the floor and an opportunity to learn about the NASDAQ Options market, first hand.
  • The winner may also get to participate in the opening or closing bell at NASDAQ’s MarketSite in Times Square – this will be dependent on availability at the time. They will spend a day shadowing a marketing employee at NASDAQ’s MarketSite.

At TeamTraders.com, Egan and the design team created a simple-to-use web interface with real-time stock data and virtual money driving the trading platform. Anyone can join the website, which currently has over 3,000 users, for free.

TeamTraders also offers prizes from time to time, ranging from tablet computers to MP3 players and tickets.

“Current leaders are showing growth of 3-4pc so it’s still all to play for!” said Egan today, referring to the NASDAQ competition.
