Innovators called on to take the challenge

A creative think tank taking place this November is set to bring together the country’s top innovators, educators and providers of funding.

The Innovators Challenge, taking place 17-18 November, aims to attract eager and interested innovators at early stage research to apply to take part in this experience.

The event, part of the Globe Forum Dublin 2010, has a prize fund of €50,000, which includes a mentoring programme by Accenture, an IQ content web kick start package, Innovation Alliance incubation space and entrepreneur programme in NovaUCD, and exclusive membership to Globe Forum’s facilitator programme and public relations consultancy.

Space to ventilate ideas

Speaking about the challenge, Denis O’Brien, supporter of the Innovation Alliance, said: “We have to give people the space to ventilate ideas and to feel comfortable and confident … This Innovators Challenge at the Globe Forum gives people that space and the universities are the catalysts to make it happen.”

The experience-rich judging panel of experts include Accenture, IRCSET and TCD/UCD Innovation Alliance: the Lord Mayor of Dublin Gerry Breen, Dr Aoibheann Gibbons, director of research development, UCD, and Marian Corcoran, head of management consulting group for Accenture.

Gibbons spoke about the initiative: “The UCD/TCD Innovation Alliance sees its role extending outside the walls of the campuses. They have established innovation as the third pillar of university activity, alongside education and research. They believe they have a guiding role to play in nurturing those with ideas and helping to bring them to the marketplace.”
