Irish Gift Voucher Shop wins UK payments award

Swords-based Gift Voucher Shop (GVS) has been awarded the Best New Prepaid Card Product of the Year at The Card and Payments Awards in London.

Launched in May 2010, the Budget Card replaced the Post Office Savings Stamp.

The Budget Card allows more than 300,000 people to budget their periodic utility bill payments and other products and services through the UK Post Office.

“We worked very closely with Bank of Ireland to deliver an innovative and secure product for the Post Office and this award is fantastic recognition of the product’s success. It is a significant achievement for us as a company to be acknowledged amongst our European peers,” said Michael Dawson, group CEO at the Gift Voucher Shop.

The judging panel congratulated the achievement of GVS in “migrating such a large customer base to such a useful product which introduces a largely non-banked market segment to a payment card.”

After the success of GVS in Ireland, especially with its popular One4all multi-store gift card and voucher, it opened in the UK market in 2006. Other innovative prepaid and account-based products that GVS offers include the Post Office Christmas Club and the Post Office Budget Card.
