Due to take place in Cork this weekend, Start-up Weekend Cork has been postponed until October due to bad timing.
UP Global’s Start-up Weekend was due to hit the city next this weekend between 14 and 16 August.
However, due to the time of year with many people away on holidays the organisers struggled to meet the required levels of participation.
“Starting with the primary factor, our timing was lousy,” admitted organiser Donal Cahalane.

“We picked a weekend that was smack in the middle of holiday season for a lot of people. This meant that while we were inundated with offers of help and assistance, we didn’t come close to meeting the minimum number of weekend attendees to make the event viable.”
Cork, a city famed for its tech and entrepreneurial spirit, will instead hold its fire on Start-up Weekend until October when it will be all guns blazing for the local community.
“Start-up Weekend, like any good start-up, has a minimal viable audience and not reaching that number means the numbers and the maths just don’t add up and we had to make that incredibly tough call.
“Decisions like this suck, but start-up life is about making the right calls at the right time,” Cahalane said.
