Online shopping: What people want from m-commerce (infographic)

22 Dec 2015

We presumably all have our Christmas shopping done at this point (right?), but just as the Christmas shopping frenzy dies down, another frenzy begins – Christmas sales shopping, of course.

Most retailers start their Christmas sales on St Stephen’s Day, if not before, with some people even doing online shopping in the sales on Christmas Day itself – which just seems a bit wrong.

But for those of us who can’t face the queues, or the thought of leaving the house over Christmas, online shopping is, of course, the way to go.

Online shopping is nothing new, but the number of people now online shopping via their smartphone is something that has increased dramatically in recent times.

As can be seen in the infographic below, which is based on a survey carried out by PayPal, 59pc of smartphone shoppers are 18-to-34-years-old, with nearly twice as many mobile shoppers preferring to use apps (47pc) rather than browsers (27pc) to shop on their mobile phone.

Interestingly, those surveyed said the smartphone activity they are most interested in using in the future is ‘tapping phone at register to pay’ – good news for Apple Pay and others developing NFC technology.
