Actor and comedian Robin Williams chats with talk-show host Conan O'Brien

We take a look at some of the most-viewed and most-shared videos on the web. This week features a dog attempting to save a fish, a cat opening a closed door, and a fitting tribute to Robin Williams.

About 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, 500 years of video watched on Facebook every day, and more than 700 YouTube videos shared on Twitter each minute, ensuring there is always video trending on the web.

With so much video available for viewing, we take a look at some of the viral videos that have caught our eye this week.

A dog tries to save a fish

The thought of a dog trying to save a fish conjures images of a pup with a cape jumping into the sea to unhook a fish caught in a plastic can holder. However, in this case, the dog decides to flick water with its nose over the fish caught by local fishermen.

Unfortunately, fiction is more interesting than reality as a number of people have noted that as much as we’d like to think, dogs don’t necessarily have a desire to help fish, rather it’s attempting to bury it with water to hide the smell in order to eat it later. Oh well, nice thought, anyway.

Audi R8 jump

There’s dangerous, and then there’s putting yourself in life-threatening danger. In this case, Niklas Strandbråten has posted a video of himself doing a teeth-clenching jump over an Audi R8 sportscar travelling a leisurely 150km/h.

While none of us at Siliconrepublic.com speak Norwegian, we can only presume that the preceeding one and half minutes prior to the jump happening is spent saying: “For the love of god and all that is holy, please do not attempt this jump!”

Mulder opening doors

Let’s not be alarming here, but isn’t a cat capable of opening a door entirely on its own not the first sign of the downfall of mankind?

Given that the cat in this video is aptly named Mulder, no doubt after David Duchovny’s character in the show X-Files, it is safe to say this cat has the brains and dexterity to eventually take over the poor owner’s house.

Félix plays the blues

Ten-year-old Félix is not your average budding guitar player. While most of his contemporaries are busy learning the chords to the latest pop and rock songs, he has taken the time to learn some delta blues made famous by Muddy Waters, Death House and Blind Willie Johnson from the 1920s.

In fact, one similarity Félix shares with the latter of the three is blindness.

All the while playing away in his football-patterned onesie. Play on, young Félix.

Seven years of selfies

Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, released last month, spans 12 years of actor Ellar Coltrane’s life in a fictionalised version of himself. The film has been heralded as one of the films of a generation.

Now it seems one selfie lover, Hugo Cornellier, was beaten to the punch as his project of taking a selfie of himself every day for seven years was put online this week, charting his growth from the age of 12 to 19.

Perfectly timed sneeze

A video from 2012 has resurfaced to find a new lease on life. In it, two bored college girls decided to have some fun in a college lecture at the expense of their fellow student behind them.

What happened was the definition of perfect timing and, at least, the guy at the end of the joke seemed to take it in his stride.

Korean kids react to Warhead candy

If there’s one thing to learn from this video, it’s that giving sugar-filled sour candy to kids who’ve never tasted anything like it is probably the worst idea you can think of if you’re looking to keep them under control.

One American English-language teacher decided to do just that on a visit to his students and proceeded to no doubt mess up the entire schedule as they reacted with a mixture of horror and glee at the Warhead candy.

Robin Williams tribute

Millions of people were stunned to hear of the death of actor and comedian Robin Williams this past week.

Certainly unique in his style of comedy, and his incredible hairiness, many of his friends in show business have been quick to offer their condolences. One in particular was talk-show host Conan O’Brien, who reminisced about the time Wiliams had bought him an incredibly ugly bike …
