Viral videos: Justin Timberlake, Indiana Jones and swimming dogs

11 Sep 2015

This week in viral videos we see the most talented weatherman in all of the land, the history of rap with Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon, and a brilliant introduction to fatherhood.

In recent days we’ve seen viral videos aplenty, with animals to the fore. There was a gorilla, fascinated by an iPhone. There was a pug drumming to Metallica. We live in such a special time.

But, elsewhere, away from the world of animals, there was so much more.

Weatherman, undeterred by Welsh town name

Channel 4 weatherman Liam Dutton was faced with an unenviable task during the week, when a particular town in the north of Wales was one of the hottest in Britain that day.

So, as usual, a namecheck was needed, to help illustrate where he was talking about.

Dutton, ever the professional, nailed the pronunciation of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, then carried on like he hadn’t just shocked us all.

Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake and the history of rap

Pretty much everything Jimmy Fallon does is impressive, a presenter absolutely made for the internet.

So when he joins up with Justin Timberlake to give a six-minute history of rap, everyone takes notice.

Covering everything from R. Kelly to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Salt-N-Peppa to Nelly, Whodini to Beastie Boys, the duo put on a masterclass.

Enjoy.

Go Pro of a wet, scary descent on a bicycle

Quite simple this. Take one human, sit it on a push bike, strap a GoPro to its helmet and film the pretty scary descent from a dam into a river.

This seems to be part of a GoPro competition, with the winner bagging US$20,000, so expect a few more short snappy clips like this in the near future.

Welcome to fatherhood, in just two minutes

Patrick Corr’s video from earlier in the week is a gem. A run-through of everything that makes up becoming a new father, Corr shows the highs, lows and monotonous so-sos of rearing a tiny little human.

“It is much easier to become a father than to be one,” is the quote that opens the video, with Corr saying “being a dad is totally worth it” when describing the film.

There’s also a pretty huge surprise buried right at the end.

Shaolin monk walks on water

In my crumbly opinion, the only records that people should try and break are ridiculous ones. So, the person carrying the most milk crates on his or her head, for example, or the person with the longest fingernails in the world, perhaps.

Sometimes world records take on a biblical sense. No, not in size, but rather in reference to biblical events.

So, walking on water is right up my street.

Up steps Shi Liliang, a Shaolin monk, to smash his own record from last year (walking on water for 118 metres) with a new personal best of 125 metres.

Dogs having a dip in a swimming pool

In Canada, Calgary swimming pools tend to close up after a busy summer right around now.

So, rather than shut up shop and drain the water away, they have started opening the doors, for one day only, to dogs.

You know what happens next.

Longboarding at 70mph

Longboarder Zak Maytum took a trip down one of the fastest runs in Colorado for this video.

Reaching speeds of up to 70mph, Maytum never looks like even nearly falling off. Some view, too.

Indiana Jones 4 and the Echoes of the Past

An excellent supercut of the most recent instalment of Indiana Jones, along with numerous scenes you may have spotted before.

Give the audience what they want, after all.
