Twitter goes down but ‘back to normal soon’

19 Jan 2016

This morning (19 January), Twitter has suffered a problem big enough to take the service down, with few people able to post or even access tweets.

Happening around 8.30am while many people were on their way into work, no doubt trying to scour their Twitter feed for today’s news, the inconvenience hasn’t been lost on people, with Facebook newsfeeds filling up with complaining users.

“Something is technically wrong,” explains the Twitter homepage. “Thanks for noticing, we’re going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon.”

Twitter down

When sending tweets from Tweetdeck it notes overcapacity as a problem in some instances, but Twitter itself says four of its five public APIs are down, with the service suffering “severe disruption” as a result.

Sporadic tweets are getting through, though, which will no doubt annoy people even more. But Twitter’s own tweet to say the site is down probably can’t be viewed at this time. Let’s check.

Nope!

It’s the third time in a week that the service has suffered some form of issue.
